Summer Term 2021
This term, our topic is going to be Ancient Greece. Up to half term, we will be looking at life in Ancient Greece and then after half term, we will look at the Olympics in Ancient Greece and look towards this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo. In English, Mrs Smillie will be looking at discussion writing and having a debate. Mrs Tebbit-Scales will be focusing on poetry which is around Ancient Greek mythological beasts and then traditional tales, this time focusing on myths and legends. Please see this terms topic web for more information about all of our learning in the different subjects this term.
Homework will be put on the school website on at the beginning of term. (See ‘Homework’ page under ‘Classes’ on the school website) Within the homework there will be English, maths and topic based activities for the term. Please complete as much as you can as this is an additional boost to your child’s learning.
Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. They can read independently or with your support and they may write their own comment in their reading diary.
PE lessons will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday. Suitable trainers for outdoor PE are also needed.
ALL children MUST have a PE kit in school all week as at times it may be necessary to change the day.
PE kits MUST include plimsolls or trainers as some sessions are outside and even if indoors, games sessions such as football require the children to have plimsolls or trainers on. Please also make sure that your child has a t-shirt, shorts and/or jogging bottoms and a jumper for PE along with hair tied back if your child has long hair. If your child has earrings they must either put tape (which you should provide) over their earrings for the PE session or be able to take out their own earrings.
If your child requires a school lunch please make sure that we have their lunch money in advance i.e. Monday for the week/number of days required. If your child is having a packed lunch please make sure that it is well balanced as we encourage healthy eating as a school. Packed lunches should not contain sweets and fizzy drinks.
Please label all items of clothing. Uniform must be worn unless prior notice is given. Children are not allowed to wear trainers in school. Jewellery should be minimal. Nail varnish, make-up and tattoos are not allowed.
Wider opportunities in Willow Class (COVID dependent)
In Willow class, there are a number of new opportunities which your child will be able to do. Swimming takes place in Willow, along with a 1 or 2 night residential. More details about these will follow when we are more aware on how and if they can take place within COVID guidance.
At the end of year 4, there is a statutory times table test. This is an on screen test consisting of 25 questions that check how fluently your child can remember there times tables up to 12x. This is a timed test with 6 seconds to answer each question. In 2021, this test is optional for schools due to COVID and will be mandatory after that.
