Seurat and Pointillism – Maple Class

Last week using the book Katie and the Bathers by James Mayhew we learnt about the artist Georges Seurat and the style of art called Pointillism.  We found out that this involved using lots of dots of colour when creating the artwork in the same way that an image on a screen is made up of pixels.

First we tried out our skills creating images of fruit, we had to concentrate extremely hard to do this as it took so many dots to make the picture.

We were really proud with our results

Then we used our skills to create our own watery landscapes – we quickly realised why it took Seurat nearly 3 years to complete each individual piece of art.

We really enjoyed trying out this style of art and then being able to show our work to parents in the display at the end of the week
