In Maple Class we have also been learning about asexual reproduction in plants – this is when plants produce an exact copy of themselves. We looked at strawberry and spider plants which reproduce by sending out runners as well as tubers such as potatoes. In tubers cells in the tuber use the food to produce energy which helps the cells divide and grow into new plants.
We currently have spider plants in the classroom which we are trying to get new plants from the runners as well as having planted potatoes.
