Pumpkin art

Maple class have been learning about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  Yayoi was brought up on a farm where they grew squash.  She was fascinated by the form and shapes she saw. She began painting them at the age of 10. They are a big feature of her work.  Yayoi’s trade mark is spots. We combined the love of pumpkins and dot to create our art.

The children were very thoughtful in their descriptions about the work they produced. Many linked their sculptures to her life or used the pumpkin to symbolise the earth.  Come and see the work in the art exhibition next week.
