As part of our work on Rivers and Waterways we have been finding out about plastic pollution from single use plastic. We have researched the impact that it has on our ecosystems and environments and the harm it is causing to wildlife as well as the reduced carbon footprint from transporting items in plastic packaging. We used the book the Tale of the Whale to inspire us to create art work using pastels of the whale’s eye crying as he looks at the plastic in the ocean, researched facts around the amount of plastic within the ocean and then created a giant sculpture of the whale in a sea of plastic waste and plastic creatures.
We then all made plastic pledges as to how we could help as we believe that plastic has many really important uses and that it is not just plastic which is the problem but how we as humans use and dispose of it.
