Maths with blocks

posted in: Oak Class News 0

This week in Oak we have been enjoying lots of exploring in maths.

We are learning to record our numbers using dots. We copied some shapes of 4 cubes, dabbing one dot for each cube.

We have been exploring to see how many different shapes we can make with 4 cubes.

We have been building towers with cubes and blocks, comparing them to see which has more and which has fewer blocks. Which tower is taller? Does the taller tower have more blocks. You could use you building blocks at home to play with this some more.

We built towers with 4 blocks. What is the tallest tower you can build? What is the shortest tower you can build?

We have really enjoyed our Block Play this week and it has been lovely to see the children’s constructions become more and more complex throughout the week.
