Poplar class are really enjoying maths challenges. Today, we were put in pairs or threes and first asked to solve this:

We decided the best way was to cross or tick the dots off as we counted. One pair of children put a line through the middle and counted each half – great thinking!
Then, we tried this:

We worked so hard at our maths, persevered and demonstrated excellent partner work with our friends. We worked out the highest and lowest total you could make with a pair of dice but we didn’t quite work out how we will know when we’ve found all the possible combinations. I wonder if anyone could work it out at home and help us?
