Maple Class – Friction investigation

Maple Class have been learning about forces in Science this term.  We have been learning about the different forces around us which are acting all the time: gravity, magnetic forces, air resistance, water resistance, pushes, pulls and friction.

We have been using Newton Meters to measure pull forces in class and then used these to help us determine the amount of force needed to overcome friction when pulling a shoe on different surfaces.

First we all made a prediction as to which surface we thought would need the greatest pull force and gave reasons why.

We then had great fun carrying out our investigations

We discussed our results afterwards thinking about whether the fact that some of the surfaces outside were wet would affect our results.
