In Maple Class as part of our Extreme Earth topic we learnt about the different types of mountains that exist, where the different mountain ranges are in the world and facts about some of the different mountains – we thought it so mind blowing to know that the tectonic plates are still moving and that the different continents have not always been in the places we know them as today.
We then had a fantastic time building our own mountains which we sprayed water on as if it were raining – we saw how the water collected and then started to run down different parts of the mountain, lakes and rivers started to form at different places in out landscape. What then we found really scary was to see how quickly pollution introduced at the top of our mountains quickly spread into all of the different water courses.
We also carried out an experiment to show how the water cycle works which was great fun
