As part of our Up, Up and Away topic, Ash Class have been investigating how we can protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a height. We discussed why the egg breaks and how we could prevent that. It was decided that we needed to cushion the egg from the hard floor and slow down the speed that it fell. The children designed, created, tested and re-designed their inventions over the course of two weeks. A few groups were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute designs.
