Welcome back to a new term in Poplar Class!
If you would like to talk to us at any time please do not hesitate to send me an email on the class email email@example.com or book a phone call appointment with the office at a convenient time.
This term we will be continuing our Friday afternoons in the science garden for Outdoor Explorers so please can all children have a spare set of clothes and wellies in school. As the weather gets warmer this term, can we please ensure children have a named hat and water bottle daily. Children’s reading records and reading books need to be brought to school everyday. These are a great way for us to communicate about your child’s reading and it helps their fluency if we follow the correct book progression.
You’ll be happy to hear we are able to carry on with Ukulele lessons this term too!
We are excited about sharing our learning with you on our class page. This term we are starting a new topic called Down on The Farm. Please take a look through our learning organiser and our class news to keep you updated with our learning this term.
Reading practice is essential to develop decoding, understanding and enjoyment of books. Please keep sharing books as well as hearing your child read regularly. By sharing and discussing books with your child at home this improves their reading and the comprehension of the texts that they share with you as well as being a great time to share together. We have reading records and bookmarks for every child so please make sure you sign these every time your child reads to you, these will be checked and comments will be written by staff as well when we hear your child read.
Homework will be sent out on Google Classroom every Thursday (please let me know if you would prefer paper copies) and we would like anything returned by the following Wednesday. Children will continue to receive spellings or phonics sounds to practise each week. Please support your child to practise their spellings at home in preparation for Spelling tests on Mondays. At the beginning of term we will also send out our homework menu full of activities you may like to complete at home.
Children will be doing PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Your child should have their PE kit in school all week as it may be necessary to change days unexpectedly. Your child’s PE kit MUST include plimsolls or trainers. Many PE lessons will be outside so please also make sure that your child has a t-shirt, shorts and/or tracksuit bottoms and a jumper for PE. Please make sure all items are named.
Please also make sure long hair is tied back and if your child has earrings they must either put tape (which you should provide) over their earrings for the PE session or be able to take out their own earrings.
