Welcome back to a new term in Beech Class! If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch via our class email address or book an appointment with the office at a convenient time after school.

We are very excited about sharing our learning with you on our Beech Class page. During Spring term, our topic was ‘Groovy Greeks’. We explored the lives and experiences of people from Ancient Greece, ahead of the successful trip to the Ashmolean museum.

This term, we will focus on the topic ‘Our Planet’ with a Geography and Science focus! Please have a look at our learning organiser and our class news to remain updated on our learning this term.

Term 3A Learning Organiser

To help us make lots of progress in Beech Class, the children are expected to practise their reading, spelling and times tables. Times Tables will be updated weekly on Times Table Rockstars, unless we have a second consolidation week.

Our class Homework Grid was sent out before Easter, with a variety of activities available. Feel free to get started over the Easter break – any further engagement at home is an additional boost to your child’s learning.

The children will receive spellings each week and they need to practise their spellings at home, before being tested every Friday in class. Any support at home is much appreciated.

Reading is at the core of children’s overall progress at school and therefore is very important in Year 3 and 4. Reading also supports their developing imagination and encourages an enthusiasm for reading. Please continue to read with your children at home, while discussing the book to support their comprehension and understanding of the text.

Times tables

It is important that children are able to recall at speed all their times tables facts including the related division facts as this supports their ability to solve calculations accurately and quickly. Although times tables will be taught at school, this needs to be supported by further effort at home. Please use Times Table Rockstars – if you need any resources to support you further, please let me know.

PE kits

Beech Class are cycling every Wednesday afternoon, so please ensure that they come to school with the appropriate clothing and equipment. If you do not have access to a bicycle, please contact the School Office who will discuss this with Mr Cleal. If you have already asked, this has been passed on.

Thursday is their P.E slot with Mr Cleal for striking and fielding games, where they will need to bring in their full kit, have their hair tied back and remove any jewellery or wear earring tape. The P.E lessons will be outdoors this term, so please make sure that your child has a t-shirt and shorts, as well as jogging bottoms and a jumper for colder weather. Before the start of term, please make sure all items are named on a label. Thank you!

If your child requires a school lunch, please make sure that we have their lunch money in advance i.e. Monday for the week/number of days required. If your child is having a packed lunch, please make sure that it is well balanced as we encourage healthy eating as a school. Packed lunches should not contain sweets and fizzy drinks.

Wider opportunities in Beech Class

After an action-packed year so far (with our class residential, swimming lessons, KS2 Bugsy musical and our trip the museum), Beech class can look forward to the upcoming cycling lessons as well as an exciting Music unit ahead!
