Welcome Letter Term 1a

Topic

We are very excited about sharing our learning with you on our Beech Class page. During Autumn term, our topic is ‘Scavengers and Settlers’. We will be exploring the lives and experiences of people from the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. Please have a look at our learning organiser and our class news to remain updated on our learning this term. We are really looking forward to our residential trip this term!

Scavengers and Settlers – Learning Organiser

Homework

To help us make lots of progress in Beech Class, the children are expected to practise their reading, spelling and times tables. Our class Homework Grid will be sent home every Friday, with one activity to be completed and returned by the following Thursday. Please complete as many activities as you can in the half term – this is an additional boost to your child’s learning.

Spellings

Children will receive spellings each week and they need to practise their spellings at home, before being tested every Friday in class. . Please support your child to practise their spellings at home in preparation for Friday spelling tests.

Reading

Reading is at the core of children’s overall progress at school and therefore is very important in Year 3 and 4. Reading also supports their developing imagination and encourages an enthusiasm for reading. Please continue to read with your children at home, while discussing the book to support their comprehension and understanding of the text.

Times tables

It is important that children are able to recall at speed all their times tables facts including the related division facts as this supports their ability to solve calculations accurately and quickly. Although times tables will be taught at school, this needs to be supported by further effort at home. Please use Times Table Rockstars – if you need any resources to support you further, please let me know.

PE kits

The children are expected to come into school in their P.E kits on their P.E days. Please ensure that they are wearing their full kit, with their hair tied back and any jewellery removed before school on a Wednesday and Thursday. The majority of the P.E lessons will be outdoors this term, so please make sure that your child has a t-shirt and shorts, as well as jogging bottoms and a jumper for colder weather. Before the start of term, please make sure all items are named on a label. Thank you!

Lunch

If your child requires a school lunch, please make sure that we have their lunch money in advance i.e. Monday for the week/number of days required. If your child is having a packed lunch, please make sure that it is well balanced as we encourage healthy eating as a school. Packed lunches should not contain sweets and fizzy drinks.

Wider opportunities in Beech Class

There are a number of new opportunities for the children in Beech Class, including cycling lessons, swimming sessions and a one-night residential at Court Hill.
