Willow Class – Term 3b – June 2018
Welcome back! I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable half term.
Our topic this term is The Egyptians. The children will be learning about a variety of different aspects of Egyptian history, as well as writing narratives based on Egyptian myths and legends and instructions linked to the topic. In addition they will be creating autobiographies about themselves. Please see the class topic web – it has a lot of detail about this terms learning.
Thank you and well done to those children who regularly complete the homework, it is wonderful to see the effort they make. Please keep up the good work!
Homework this term will be sent home on a Wednesday and needs to be returned on the following Tuesday please. Within the homework there will usually be an English, maths and topic based activity. Please complete as much as you can as this is an additional boost to your child’s learning.
Children are continuing to make progress with times tables and complete their times tables certificates. Please continue to help children practice times tables at home. Written, verbal or app based practice is great. A good way to test your child’s (and your own) times tables recall knowledge is to give quick fire times tables questions (e.g. 5 x 6?) whilst in the car, in the supermarket queue or whenever you find a spare moment.
Please recall that next year all children will be assessed by government test, in their knowledge of times tables up to 12 x 12.
A big thank you to those children who regularly read at home. All children in Willow can now read independently and complete their reading diaries themselves. I am continuing the reading raffle is drawn every Friday and we are also completing the reading challenge. Please do not hesitate to come and see me if you need further support with your child’s reading, I am happy to help.
Please see our class page on the school website. Lots of information about learning and activities (including photographs) are available to view there. They demonstrate Willow class’ love of learning and enthusiasm for all topics.
PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Friday.
ALL children MUST have a PE kit in school all week as at times it may be necessary to change during the day.
We sometimes need to take PE outside. Please ensure children have sun hats/caps, water bottles and sun tan lotion if the weather turns hot.
If your child requires a school dinner please make sure that we have their lunch money in advance i.e. Monday for the week/number of days required. If your child is having a packed lunch please make sure that it is well balanced as we encourage healthy eating as a school. Packed lunches should not contain sweets and fizzy drinks.
Please label all items of clothing. Uniform must be worn unless prior notice is given. Children are not allowed to wear trainers in school. Jewellery should be minimal. Please remember that nail varnish, make-up and tattoos are not allowed. Any nail varnish applied at the weekend should be removed fully before school please.
This term our whole school values focus on determination. We are creating a class display focussing on how we can show determination. We will discuss the value as a class and embed this in our daily learning and routine. Please do discuss the values with your child at home.
